Everyone Is Your Teacher

“No man is your enemy, no man is your friend, every man is your teacher.”
~Florence Scovel Shinn~

That one stopped me cold the first time I heard it.

Every difficult person. Every disappointment. Every relationship that didn’t work out the way you planned. All of it — curriculum.

The boss who made your life miserable. The friend who walked away. The stranger who said exactly the right thing at exactly the right moment.

Teachers. All of them.

The question isn’t what did they do to me. It’s what did they teach me.
