A hummingbird beats its wings 80 times per second.

Eighty times. Per second.

If your attention is somewhere else — and let’s be honest, it usually is — that thing was here and gone before you even looked up. A flash of green and red. A tiny impossible thing. And then nothing.

The Dude thinks about this a lot.

The world doesn’t slow down for us. It doesn’t send a notification. It doesn’t wait for us to put the phone down and pay attention. It just happens — right in front of us — at full speed.

The hummingbird was there. Were you?
